On Saturday, October 22nd, UC CalFresh staff were invited to participate in the 21st Annual, "Kids Just Wanna Have Fun" Halloween carnival and festival. Parents and their children were invited to the grand re-opening of Holmes Playground in Fresno. Kids wore their Halloween costumes and enjoyed free pumpkins, bounce houses, carnival games and other activities. Community organizations and informational booths were also present to give various information to parents and their children.

The park stage held a DJ booth, dancing, and other fun activities.
UC CalFresh staff, Evelyn Morales and Mishelle Petit, provided information on MyPlate to guests, and distributed recipe cards and nutrition information pamphlets. Samples of infused waters were also available for guests to try, and many were surprised by how much they enjoyed it after tasting it for the very first time! UC CalFresh staff informed individuals that infused water is an easy way to add flavor to traditional water without the sugar and calories found in sugar sweetened beverages.

Many of the children visiting the UC CalFresh booth recognized MyPlate from their nutrition lessons at school and were able to list the five food groups as well as examples. The children visiting the booth enjoyed testing their MyPlate knowledge and trying the infused water. Overall, UC CalFresh staff enjoyed seeing the many improvements made to Holmes Playground while providing nutrition education to the community. We hope to be back next year!
