UC CalFresh had such a great time at the Burroughs Elementary fun day yesterday!

We provided a ReThink your Drink station with flavored water, an anytime/sometimes food booth with interactive activities, and a wet sponge toss.  

We know what you might be thinking...a wet sponge?

Sponges were flying!

Students tossed a wet sponge around while naming foods from certain food groups. It's fun, especially when the temperatures outside reach a boiling 100 degrees. A simple activity like this is a great way to keep students active over the summer when the warm weather makes it harder to play outside.

Students matched food models up to the food group they belong to.

They were pretty good at matching things up!!

Students also had a chance to identify which foods were sometime snacks. Foods high in sugar, fat and salt fall in this category. Applying the knowledge gained throughout the school year was a breeze!

When the temperature rises, flavored water is a great alternative to sugary drinks.

Orange-lemon-lime water was the favorite. Cucumber mint was a close second!
